This year’s theme is “Build a Better World”. We will have events, decorations, and activities that support the theme. This year we are collaborating with the Marblehead Animal Shelter to collect items needed for the animals as children read books over the summer. Several children’s events and crafts will have animal themes and highlight building a better world for animals in need.

The Children’s Summer Reading Program is open to all children, readers and pre-readers, ages 3-12. Registration begins June 27th, and when they register, children receive their first reading log. On their reading logs, kids list on each line the name of the book they read or had read to them. Each log has room for 10 books, and there are 5 logs available for children for the summer. A donation of an item on the shelter wish list will also count as a book on their reading log. Collection bins for donated wish list items for the shelter will be in the Children’s Room.

When each log is completed, they get a sticker on the log and then receive a free gift certificate or event/institution voucher. We will have prize packages from the various organizations to give away for children reading or listening to at least 10 books and recording them on their reading logs. We keep the logs until the last day.
