Teen Events

We offer monthly events for teens, including crafts, movies, and book groups. Past programs include Candy Sushi, Fortune Telling, Book-making workshops, sewing workshops, Henna, and Cupcake Decorating. We also offer a monthly Teen Literature Book Club for adults who love to read YA!

 

 

AUGUST 2017 PROGRAMS

Sheep To Sweater Tuesdays, Final Session
Tuesday, August 1st, 3:30 pm
in the Lower Level Meeting Room

This is the final session of Sheep To Sweater Tuesdays, a three-part series that explored the history, math, science, and craft that takes plants, animals, and even plastic from fluff to fashion. Using the yarn we made in Week 1 and Week 2, we’ll create our own woven art pieces or finger knitting.

 

Makey Makey and Scratch Workshop

We’re going to invent!
We’re going to game!
We’re going to program and code!
We’re going to build stuff!
We’re going to play (safely) with electrical circuits!
We’re going to do ALL OF THAT IN ONE WORKSHOP!

Using Scratch, we’ll code our own game or animation. Then, we’ll use Makey Makeys to build personalized controllers out of recycled materials. No prior coding experience is necessary.

 

Back To School Gear-Up

Summer may be ending, but we’re going to start the new school year in style! Drop into the Teen Room anytime between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm the week of August 21st – 25th to get prepped for the new school year.

Featuring:

DIY School Supplies – Don’t shell out big bucks for cute notebooks and pencils! Get the cheap ones and bling them out here! We’ll provide duct tape, sequins, fancy paper, and all kinds of other decorations so your school supplies can be as well-styled as your first day of school outfit.

Puzzles, Board Games, and Brain Teasers – Get back in the swing of thinking hard with strategy games, word puzzles, brain teasers, and more!

Crowd-Sourced Summer Reading Review – Did you do your summer reading back in June? Have you completely forgotten the weird details that you may need to remember? Did one or two little things stick in your mind? Kickstart your memory and help your classmates by adding to our “Stuff I Remember About This Book” sheets!

Relaxation Station – If back to school is stressing you out, head to our Relaxation Station to make a stress ball, get some yoga tips, draw some zentangles, do some coloring, and keep the vacation feeling going just a little bit longer.
