“Continuing Conversations on Race: What is ‘Black Enough’?”

August 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Abbot Public Library and the Marblehead Racial Justice Team will be hosting “Continuing Conversations on Race” at the Library on Monday, August 19th at 7:00 pm.

In black enuf*, Carrie Hawks recalls her journey for acceptance as a mixed-race person. Hawks brings in other attributes in addition to her blackness, and her story leaves many questions unanswered. After watching the video, we will explore these questions, discuss how cultural norms can create boundaries for inclusion and exclusion, where we see it happening in our lives, and share ideas about how we might address them, for ourselves and for others.

These ongoing conversations are a safe and welcoming place in which we explore our own privilege, biases, and questions, and where we continue to learn and grow by hearing each other’s stories so that we can best make a difference. It is a place for listening, conversation, and engagement.
