“Golda Meir – That Extraordinary Woman,” Presented by Historian Herb Belkin
November 10 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
What was it about Golda Meir that took her from a childhood in Czarist Russia to the Prime Minister of Israel? Local Historian Herb Belkin will discuss this extraordinary woman as she rises in the Zionist movement and plays a critical role in the founding of the Jewish homeland. Her work was acknowledged by David Ben Gurion when he praised her with, “The day history is written, it will be recorded that it was thanks to a Jewish woman that the Jewish state was born.” Her story is one of dedication to the rebirth of Israel and the price she paid in her personal life. There will be a Q&A opportunity following the presentation.
Historian Herb Belkin writes and lectures on the epic events of the last two hundred years of Jewish history. His field of study covers Zionism, the Jewish Diaspora, and the critical struggle for a Jewish homeland.
Herb has taught courses on modern Jewish history at Brandeis, Tufts, and Salem State University. He writes a column for The Jewish Advocate, is a correspondent for The Times of Israel, and is a frequent contributor to political and historical blogs.
