Summer Reading Program!

CHILDREN’S 2019 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Monday, June 24th – Friday, August 16th

This year’s state-wide summer reading theme is “The Summer of Space.” This summer is the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing, and we hope children will be inspired to explore a “universe” of reading! Our events, decorations, and activities will support the theme.

The Children’s Summer Reading Program is open to all children, readers and pre-readers, ages 3-12.

Registration begins Monday, June 24th, and when they register, children receive their first reading log. On their reading logs, kids write on each line the name of the book they read or had read to them. Each log has room for 10 books, and there are 5 logs available for children to complete for the summer. We will also have space-themed science experiment sheets to take home. Each one completed will count as a book on a child’s reading log if they wish. In addition, children will be helping to complete a sticker mural, which is displayed across from the Library’s Main Desk, with one sticker for each book read.

When each log is completed, children receive a sticker on the log and then receive a free gift certificate or event/institution voucher donated by businesses or individuals. We keep the logs until the last day.

At the end of the Summer Reading Program on Friday, August 16th, we finish giving out prizes for completed logs and will have an ice cream give away for all participants. Keep watching for the following upcoming summer events:

** Studies show that, regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic level, or previous achievement, children who read four or more books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall than their peers who read one or no books over the summer. **
